City in Color

Here are a few photos I meant to post a couple weeks ago. One of the things I noticed most about London was that it is a city with defined accent colors- namely red- and also the pastels coating so many row houses in more residential areas. For a city that in 20th Century literature (both modern and post-modern) is often described as a decaying monster, I think these color combinations are a wonderful sign of revival despite the current economic situation. Although most of these photos are taken in more affluent neighborhoods, I saw similar things happening driving through many suburbs on the trains in and out of the city.

Even in public art displays, and museum coffee shops the planners tend towards reds, vibrancy... perhaps restoration starts with a city in color.
