Farewell to Nova Scotia

A few scenery shots from my last day in NS. I'll miss the place and the people terribly. Until December!

City in Color

Here are a few photos I meant to post a couple weeks ago. One of the things I noticed most about London was that it is a city with defined accent colors- namely red- and also the pastels coating so many row houses in more residential areas. For a city that in 20th Century literature (both modern and post-modern) is often described as a decaying monster, I think these color combinations are a wonderful sign of revival despite the current economic situation. Although most of these photos are taken in more affluent neighborhoods, I saw similar things happening driving through many suburbs on the trains in and out of the city.

Even in public art displays, and museum coffee shops the planners tend towards reds, vibrancy... perhaps restoration starts with a city in color.

Blueberry Lane

I spent the day in the Annapolis Valley picking blubes with my mama. Who am I kidding? Truth be told we drove all the way there, spent two hours having lunch on a terrace beside the river, bought blueberries at the farmers market, went for a nice walk and came home. Objective (fresh, local blueberries) = accomplished. I wish I'd snapped more scenery shots, because it's breath taking. Oh well. Next time.

Sandy Ain't So Dandy

I am one of those people who doesn't own flip flops, or a beach bag, and can't bring myself to buy them for the four or so times I head to the beach every year... meaning that my beach essentials are oxfords, my leather backpack, and of course, a hat. Ah well, the truth is walking in sand with shoes on is awful, and if you have real shoes to put back on it's motivation to realllly clean off your feet as soon as you leave the beach. The problem with beaches is that they're covered in sand, but this one is a family secret and incredibly beautiful and most often deserted. I loved the colors of the umbrellas and this man's shirt and shorts.

Back to the East Coast

Finally back in Nova Scotia after almost 8 months, and heading back to Montreal in 2 weeks. It feels like I just left! This is the reason that Nova Scotia in the summertime makes my heart ache when I'm away...

Nova Scotia has a rare combination of raw fighting spirit and peaceful beauty that always draws me back despite the far reaching distances life sometimes demands. More to come, and probably some more England photos as well, but I am feeling passionate about my home today and wanted to share it with you. Cheers!

The Dead

Here are a few shots from a small town in Kent called Sevenoaks, and a beautiful hidden graveyard. I've never seen wild roses growing anywhere else the way they do in England, and I found it both beautiful and haunting among the graves. I was wearing some casual but cute romping clothes but the fashion highlight of the day was this beautiful old lady my boyfriend captured disappearing around a corner in a little lane.

Sorry there are so many!
